Men and Weapons / Hombres y Armas

Then, by chance, a friend tell me about a book his brother have about the Conquest of Mexico, with lot of illustrations; in some naif style, he said. He no need think twice when he brought to me the book and I take a look inside. Seem look very complete at first glance so he leave me for a while, all I'll need.

But when I read it I can saw that I have a great book in my hands. And although maybe the art of the book was no Leonardo Da Vinci it was correct in description of weapons, way of use, garments and arms, with full description of them.

One of the inner illustrations by
Pablo Martín Gómez

This is a big achievement because the autor of the book is the same of the illustrations.

The author is well, very well documented no just in the text, iconographic too, directing to original art sources from the XVth and XVIth century and reproduce with a new air, with a lovely freshness.

The book is "Hombres y Armas en la Conquista de México" (Man and Weapons in the Conquest of Mexico)

wrote by Pablo Martín Gómez in Almena publisher. Its format maybe no give their due to the content. Martín Gómez spare no effort, dedication and time to write it. He go from the descriptions of the aztecs and castillians armies tactics and strategies, the succinct panoply description of both factions, including the severals types of heavy artillery, till the Tenochtitlan capture. I mean, the man have information about the matter as nobody, joining the information of several sources and put together in this fascinating and indispensable book.

Taking this information I made some sketches and modeling the aspect of the first Conquistadores, they posible true look at the XVIth century first quarter.

Gracias!!!
