The Eagle Warriors Sketches II / Bocetos para Guerreros Águila II

       The next study is one of my first attempt to give a final look of this Mexica warrior.

      We can see that the maxtlatl or loincloth is over the suit and not below, as was the right use. This is a artistic license I take with the intention to "update" this character representation. Take a look to the claws on the knees; I'd move this element more up as we saw in the terracotta sculpture which have on the half shin. This was looking for a more offensive element in the hand to hand fight moment. Beside the leg he wear a flint knife as aditional weapon.  

 

      On the arms I sketched a kind of wings using as model that simplified wings showed by the terracotta sculpture but more realistic and dynamic. This wings will made using eagle feathers sewn or attached to a kind of leather armlet tied to the arms. The right image and that below of this lines trying to describe how will be the armlets and the way the feathers will fixed to it.

 

 



      We can see too how I try to design the Eagle Warrior helmet in two positions. For this composition I used the Museo Antropológico de México stone eagle sculpture found before the Main Temple site and a stone serpent head.

 

 

      Nevertheless this design no like so much and the three dimesional hemelt representation is a issue that worried me. I must to solve it!

      El siguiente boceto es un primer intento de conformar la imagen definitiva de este guerrero mexica.

     

     Vemos que el maxtlatl o taparrabos va por encima del traje y no debajo, como sería lo correcto. Estos son licencias que me permito en base a "actualizar" la representación de este personaje. Fijaos que las garras que vemos en las esculturas en terracota las he desplazado a las rodillas como elemento ofensivo a la hora de la lucha cuerpo a cuerpo. Lleva junto a la pierna un puñal que sería de sílex como arma adicional.

 

      En los brazos he perfilado las alas en representación un poco más realista de las estilizadas en el modelo de terracota. Estas alas están compuestas de plumas tejidas o adheridas a una especie de brazal de piel que iría atado a los brazos. La imagen de la derecha y la de abajo tratan de describir cómo serían estos brazales y la forma en que las plumas  van pegadas a el.

 

 



      En esta última imagen vemos cómo intento recrear el yelmo del Guerrero Águila en tres dimensiones. Para ello me basé principalmente en la escultura de un águila en piedra hallado frente al Templo Mayor y en una cabeza de serpiente del Museo Antropológico de México.

 

      Sin embargo no me termina de convencer esta representación y el problema de la tridimensionalidad del yelmo y su representación me preocupa. ¡Deberé resolverlo de algún modo!
